WST-8 细胞定量检测试剂盒提供了一种操作简便、即用型的解决方案，适用于对活细胞数量进行高效、稳健及高通量的定量分析。该试剂可直接加入细胞培养体系中，并在 1 至 4 小时内使用标准酶标仪进行吸光度测定。该检测方法基于无毒四唑盐 WST-8 的还原反应：在电子传递体 1-甲氧基-5-甲基苯肼甲基硫酸盐（1-methoxy-5-methylphenazinium methyl sulfate）的作用下，WST-8 被细胞内的脱氢酶还原为一种水溶性的橙色甲臜（formazan）染料。生成的橙色甲臜产物量与活细胞数量呈正比，可通过测定 460 nm 处的吸光值进行定量分析。由于试剂溶液具有良好的稳定性，该检测可适用于需较长孵育时间（24–48 小时）的实验方案，且其检测灵敏度高于传统基于四唑盐的检测方法，如 MTT、XTT 或 MTS。
