白介素 1β (IL-1β) 合成为无活性前体蛋白或 pro-IL-1β。该前体在细胞内被胱天蛋白酶 1（IL-1β 转化酶）裂解，形成活性蛋白，随后分泌（Allan et al.）。IL-1β 与 IL-1 受体结合，并通过 MAPK 或 NF-kB 通路激活细胞内信号传导。IL-1β 由单核细胞、组织巨噬细胞和树突状细胞在感染或损伤后释放，并诱导急性期蛋白的表达。它还通过刺激内皮细胞表达粘附分子，促进炎症细胞和免疫活性细胞从循环系统浸润到血管外和受累组织。IL-1β 还影响其他免疫细胞；例如，它与抗原或丝裂原共同刺激 T 细胞功能。它还以 IL-6 依赖的方式刺激 Th17 细胞分化和B细胞增殖。IL-1β 缺陷小鼠与野生型小鼠并无表型差异；然而，它们对炎症的反应降低，这表明 IL-1β 在炎症性疾病中起着关键作用（Dinarello）。

(A) The biological activity of Mouse Recombinant IL-1 beta was tested by its ability to promote the proliferation of D10S cells. Cell proliferation was measured using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum. The EC50 in the above example is 0.81 pg/mL.
(B) 2 μg of Mouse Recombinant IL-1 beta was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining. Mouse Recombinant IL-1 beta has a predicted molecular mass of 17.5 kDa.
